  Milk shortage inevitable if price increases not met 

UK - Milk production has declined at a rate of more than 7% in recent weeks due to poor quality forage and the continuing exodus of producers from the industry, according to the National Farmers' Union
(NFU). And this figure looks set to rise despite recent price increases of 2p (0.03 euro) per litre of milk.

The European Court of Justice has overturned French legislation which prohibits cheese from being sold under the label 'Emmenthal' if no rind exists.

The United States Federal Trade Commission has approved the takeover of food company Nabisco by Kraft Foods, the North American food business of Philip Morris.

  Calling all research scientists and graduates

The Dairy Research and Development Corporation (DRDC) is calling all research scientists and graduate students to present papers, either in oral or poster format, at its Farm to Fork 2001 conference.
